The University of Puget Sound, Puget Sound or UPS, is a private liberal arts college in Tacoma, which is a city in the US state of Washington, serving as the county seat of Pierce County, housing a number of more than 199 600 people, within limits, as estimated during the 2009 census, which makes it the state's 3rd largest city and the 2nd largest one in the Puget Sound area.
UPS was established in 1888 and was founded by the Methodist Episcopal Church. It presently offers its students a 4-year core curriculum in the liberal arts tradition, with more than 40 majors, minors, and interdisciplinary programs, approximately 1200 courses being offered, annually.
Puget Sound's athletic teams are known as the Loggers and they compete in the NCAA's Division III Northwest Conference. Their distinctive colors are maroon and white, and their mascot is `Grizz` the Logger.
Among UPS' noteworthy alumni, there are also: Jose Calugas - Medal of Honor recipient, Scott Griffin - CIO of Boeing, Justin Jaschke - founder and former CEO of Ver, and Adam West (non-degree alum) - actor, most notably portraying Batman (transferred to Whitman College).
